The following are testimonials from participants and volunteers who have generously given their time to our foundation, created in honor of Judith Lombeida. Judith was an Air Force Colonel and a neurologist at the Air Force Academy. She was killed three years ago, leaving her family devastated. However, Mark Backlin, Judith’s husband, found a way to honor his wife and allow for his entire family to preserve her memory. In her honor he created the Judith Lombeida Medical Foundation. Mark was deeply inspired by Judith’s frequent trips to Central and South America performing humanitarian missions, and hoped to continue his wife’s work. Now 3 years old, the foundation is run completely off of volunteers, and travels to Ecuador (Judith’s home country) twice a year performing medical and surgical missions. Medical missions treat upwards of 3,000 people in five days, while surgical missions can perform up to thirty surgeries in a week.
